Trending Next Spring: The Future Starts Now

That may or may not be a reference to that The Kills song by a similar name (take out the "n" in now and add an "sl") but more likely than not it's referring to the futuristic accessories that walked the spring 2012 (aka now) runways.

If someone says that clothing looks "futuristic," I automatically think the Jetsons and the episode of Spongebob where Squidward time travels (it's called, "SB-129," to be exact).  That's not particularly cute, if you know what I'm saying. You may recall from earlier this year that metallic is a trend for this season; that's proof that shiny silver garments can be kool, not kooky. Or both. Depends on how you look at it. (Do you see the glass half empty or half full? I always thought that was a dumb question because if you pour water into it so the glass has liquid until the half-way mark, that's half full. If there was originally a whole glass of water and you drank half of it, that's half empty. I need some context here, you know?)

If you're feeling daring, I think you should try this accessory trend out. If you have some silver shoes or a funky, avant-garde-ish, shiny bag, you're all set. The Man Repeller actually just enlightened the world on the subject of metallic Supergas. Praise the feudal lord. You can either pair your futuristic blingity-bling with a monochrome outfit à la Givenchy S/S 2012, or go all out and make the entire outfit shinetastic like at Alexander McQueen. Go cray or go home, I always say. Funnily enough, I actually tell people to go home quite often, but not for that reason. You gotta get outta there

The bag is a complete mind-boggler. It's totally throwing off my sense of perspective and depth perception.

Prada
Is it a problem that these shoes remind me of the Jonas Brothers song "Burnin' Up?" I can make this relate to the future, hold on, I got this--the JoBros also did a cover of the song "Year 3000," which is about, well, the year 3000. BAM. Don't ask how I know all this about. I used to listen to Radio Disney as an eight-year-old, if you must know.

Rodarte
Something about these shoes reminds me of a comic book. Is that just me? It usually is.

Alexander McQueen
Heelless shoes have been making a comeback recently.

Phillip Lim
Simple but elegant. Just how it should be.

Yves Saint Laurent

The gold accents really add an element of futurism into all the looks in the YSL spring show. The collection itself was pretty sparkly and otherworldly, so the accessories (especially those freakin' awesome hairpieces) totally fit the vibe.

Are you planning on trying out this trend? You know that I always tell you to go for it if it feels right. If you dig it, do it.

One more thing. Yup, you saw it coming, don't lie.
