Who Spoke?

Z SPOKE!!!! A while back, I spent about a bajillion hours on style.com looking up every single collection that Zac Posen has ever put out under his name. I didn't even have any particular interest in Zac Posen, except for that my mom taught him French when he was in Middle School (!!). So I just decided to take at least one picture from each of his collections and save it in a folder. I now have 34 collections of Zac Posen clothing to reference whenever the hell I want.

Tonight, I was wondering what I should put in my first blogpost with Sheila in a week (yes, she's back! We had ate grilled cheese and Rice Krispie treats in her honor.), so me and Lola decided to look through my infinite pictures that I have on file. She was like, "Hey, which one is it where you have all of the collections?" (This is paraphrased, she didn't actually say those words, though she does sound this stupid all the time.) And I was like, "Oh, it's Zac Posen!" We're sort of mind readers. Nbd.

Anyway, we both fell in love with Z Spoke by Zac Posen, which is supposedly the less expensive version of the real Zac Posen stuff, but we liked it a lot more than the real things. Our two favorite collections were Fall/Winter 2010 and Resort 2011.

Since I like putting things in chronological order, ALWAYS, we'll start with the 2010 collection.

Lola, who never wears adorable little dresses, approves of this one.
10 points to Hufflepuff for variety.
This is another one of those tricky things where everyone thinks you're wearing a necklace BUT YOU'RE ACTUALLY NOT. Like that lace romper that looked like a dress but actually had shorts.
I FRICKIN LOVE PRINTS!!! <3
It drapes and ties, but there's a legit dress underneath, too! I'm writing in fragments, sorry, brain=dead.
More sartorial trickery.

Simple silhouette, cray-cray colors.
This isn't entirely true, but besides putting things in chronological order I also greatly enjoy alliteration.

....And now for Resort 2011.
Green is not currently my favorite color, but there are some things that are just irresistible, like a good polka dot print in a snazzy shade.

More polky dotties! Lola said this was her favorite dress. 10 more points to Hufflepuff!!

This just makes me happy. 'Nuff said.

The vibrancy of this cute little dress is perfect because you can just throw it on 'cause the shape is so laid back, but you won't feel the need to accessorize a lot because it's not actually a simple dress.

I love a good floral pattern, as you already know, so what's not to like here?

This also makes me very happy. If I were to use one word to describe the feeling I get from seeing this, it would be "jolly."

I thought your eyes might be exploding from seeing all of the colorful prints and bright colors, so I gave you a little break. It's also just a great dress that's easy to incorporate into most outfits because of the neutral color and minimal details.

And now we bring back some color with that rad mint green color. I'm not actually quite sure what it is that is wrapped around her lower body (are those shorts or is that a skirt?! The world may never know. Hint: it's more than 3 licks), but I know that I like it.

A mint green jumper that looks like it feels incredible. You'd probably experience the same feeling inside you'd get from sleeping on a warm sheep, and the same feeling outside you'd get from laying on silk bedsheets.

That's nearly all for tonight folks. Just a few things:
1. I won the Belle Costes Giveaway that my friend Daxia from the blog Silk and Satan was having! I was so ridiculously happy when I found out. Some crazy shiz went down.
2. I don't believe I've ever posted about Lena Ker before, but her artwork is phenomenal. It's unfair. Her illustrations are totes the best I've ever seen, so you should definitely check her out.

Playing With Fire in the Late Afternoon

Late Afternoon is actually the name of a blog that I just discovered on Chictopia (and Playing With Fire is the name of her Chictopia page), and this girl Liz has incredible style. I just bolded and italicized that--that's how legit I am about this. Every single outfit she has posted on her blog is phenomenal. Here's just a few pictures I snatched from her blog/Chictopia page.

I think her clothing/style defies explanation. I will leave you to marvel at her skill. I hope to maybe steal a few of her pieces for myself...and I mean that literally. I will go to her house and take her clothing.

I HIGHLY suggest that you check out her blog and Chictopia page, because they're both flippin' awesome.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I got a call from the Apple Store today, and Erica/Sherica/Sheila has been repaired! My dear mother is going to pick her up for me tomorrow. There will be an über blog post on Friday as a sort of "Welcome Home" party for her. It will be on Friday, not Thursday because I have silly little school things from 3:30 until 9 pm. I'd rather blog.

Enjoy playing with fire in the late afternoon. (Disclaimer: I did not mean this literally. Please don't actually play with fire in the late afternoon seeing as you might kill yourself accidentally, possibly.)

Skewl.

Oh hey guys. Sorry I didn't post last night. I miraculously got a ridicky sore throat and had gotten approximately 5 1/2 hours of sleep the night before, and I went to bed at, like, 10:00. That's like going to bed at 4 in the afternoon. But not actually. Anyway, this is just a quick update saying that my computer should be back soon, meaning more regular posts!!!!

Also, I have about 50 billion massive school (a.k.a. skewl) projects that will be done this week. Really just 1. But I'm just really busy, working on my school's musical. There shall be photographeez of our costumes soon...Here's a hint: think 19th century London. Or, you can look through this post, and you smart little ducklings may just figure it out.

I'll be back to blogging about actual fashion and stuff soon enough.

Toodles, y'all!

Look 't!!

The title of this post is a pun, because it's about a website called Looklet. My cousin always used to poke us and say "Look 't!" when he wanted us to look at something. Actually, he'd say it repeatedly until we paid attention, so I now have the sound of my cousin's voice saying it in my head like a broken record every time I'm reminded. Crap.

Anyway, Looklet, is actually quite addictive once you get started using it. It's a site where you can put absolutely any clothes (only the ones they have on the site, but that's still thousands and thousands of pieces from a bajillion different places) on a model of your choice, and then you can put her in any place you want (there's some really cray-cray ones) and use any lighting you want. (It all looks outrageously real. It blows my mind.) The possibilities are almost literally endless. Which is why I hate it so much. I'm awful at making decisions, so I usually end up going all in, or being very minimalist when it comes to these things.

Another perk is that you can tuck pieces into other ones, have unusual things worn over instead of under your clothes, and you can choose to wear jackets and such articles open or closed. You'll see how ridiculously fun it is once you get started. Remember, I'm only here to help you procrastinate. I felt that I was obligated to share with you another means of completing this task.

Here are some of the looks I created on Looklet last night. Mind you, this was what I did instead of sleeping. That's what it does to you.

(I'd give you the links, but a lot of these aren't from current seasons.)

SWEATER BY TOPSHOP
DRESS BY TOPSHOP
PANTS BY TOPSHOP
SANDALS BY MARC BY MARC JACOBS
This one wouldn't save to my page, so I just screenshotted it, which is why it's not a full picture.
I absolutely adore these Cheap Monday pants. Even though they're not from this season, they're completely on trend: high-waisted flares in a bright color. That is some skilled forecasting. Better than the weather people these days.

One helpful thing that I can take away from my late-night styling session last night: I love Topshop.
Another thing I learned about Topshop is that they're quite intelligent there, making all the prices listed on pounds/euros (I can't really tell the difference between the two signs) so that everything seems a ton cheaper than it actually is. Clever.

Have fun spending countless hours putting expensive clothes on gorgeous women and placing them on Hawaiian beaches in overexposed lighting.

BTDUBS a.k.a. PS (so many abbreviations!!): Here's the link to my Looklet page in case you want to check it out.

We Live Young (Dot Blogspot Dot Com)

This post doesn't have much to do with fashion, but I came across this incredible Australian photographer named Nirrimi Hakanson. I found her on The Glamourai way back in January, and was so intrigued that I checked out her website. I ended up reading every blogpost she's ever written and looked at all the photographs she posted on her website. She hadn't posted for a while, but for some reason I decided to check back again today, and she'd posted twice. It rekindled my love for her artwork. These words probably have absolutely no effect on you at the moment, but when you see her stuff, you'll see what I mean. Hopefully.

How fricking GORGEOUS are these photographs??!!!! I <3 Nirrimi!!!!

These are just a few of the many beautiful photographs she's taken, but they were the ones that caught my attention. (There are other ones on the Glamourai link above.) I've sort of fallen in love with Nirrimi's pictures because they're so overwhelmingly inspirational. It's so refreshing to see an actual decent photograph after only being exposed to the mediocrity that is the pictures taken by girls who walk around with expensive Nikons and Canons and call themselves photographers, when all they do is take pictures of their friends. WHEW. Glad I got that off my chest, that's been bugging me for quite a while now. ....Moving on.

Not only is Nirrimi a ridiculously talented photographer, she's also a skilled writer. Even though she's only 18, and from a somewhat remote place in Australia (North Queensland--sounds kinda trippy.), she was signed to an agency at age 16, shot the Fall/Winter 2010 Diesel campaign at age 17, and this year is coming out with her first book. Believe me, the second that comes out I am getting on that. But seriously, after reading that, try and tell me you are not completely inspired at the moment. She was SIXTEEN. We got this.

For reals, though. Go on. Try and tell me you're not inspired. JUST KIDDING! That's not even possible so I won't even bother having a one-sided conversation with myself about it.

If you want to check out her blog click here.
This is the link to her photography website.

Her blog is like her main page, you can get to her photos, writings, Twitter, etc. from there.

On an entirely unrelated note (it's kinda ironic that I'm saying entirely unrelated since this is part is actually about fashion and this is a fashion blog), I usually don't appreciate the big, big names that uneducated (about fashion, that is) people usually associate with the fashion world, i.e. Chanel, Gucci, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, etc. However, I actually really liked Gucci's Spring 2011 collection.

I liked how a lot of this season's color trends (brights and whites) were incorporated into the entire collection. The first few pieces seemed very Jil Sander-esque as far as colors go, but the shapes/fabrics were way more laidback and go with the flow. There were also some interesting silhouettes and fun detailios throughout the entire collection. Proppyprops goin' out to Gucci. Peace, y'all.

The Blue Jeanie

Get it? Genie, Jeanie?...This post is about denim.
As I was checking harpersbazaar.com, I came upon the article "A Month of Denim," and naturally, I read the entire thing. Jeans are generally a staple in the modern woman's wardrobe, ESPECIALLY teenagers (I hate it when people come to school wearing skinny jeans and a tank top. It makes me cry a little inside.), but in the past few years, the only type of jeans people wore/still wear are skinny jeans.

Well, I think it's about time to shun those skinny jeans and bring on the flare jeans. And the cropped jeans. And the overalls. And the chambray. Although chambray isn't actually denim, it's like denim's second cousin. The one who thinks they're part of the family, but secretly, the rest of the family doesn't count them.

So get ready to be bombarded by the flaredest, croppedest, overallest and chambrayest photographs you've ever seen at one time:

I'm starting with flare jeans. The volume of the flare will gradually increase. Brace yourself.

This is Joanna Hillman, Senior Market Editor at Harper's Bazaar. The below italicized text, as well as the other italicized text that will show up later on in this post, is taken from Bazaar's website:

Joanna is wearing Textile Elizabeth and James flare jeans with a Lyn Devon blouse, DVF Mongolian fur coat, Sam Edelman wedges, Balenciaga bag and Eddie Borgo earrings.

I love these jeans because they're good for beginners. Beginners here meaning those not ready to bring on the intense flarity that others are. (In case you were wondering flarity is not in fact a word in the dictionary, but is one of my own creation).

I don't actually know who she is or what she's wearing, but I like her jeans. They're high-waisted flares, which in my book equals a successful pair of pants and worthy of going on anyone's legs.

This is my beloved Man Repeller, Leandra Medine, with her ombre'd hair and flare jeans, standing what she calls the "quintessential blogger pose." This is actually my favorite pair out of all of the flares in this post. The flaring begins at the knee, so that it has space for the volume to increase a decent amount without being ridiculously overwhelming and/or clownlike.

This is what Leandra is wearing here (copy and pasted from her blog):
Shirt: Acne, flare jeans: Textile Elizabeth + James, necklace: Jimmy Choo x H&M, leopard print belt: J Crew, rings: Kimberly Baker and DANNIJO, shoes: Christian Louboutin, bucket bag: Hobo International.

Now this woman, Lisa Luna, is just like me. Here's why: "I'm convinced I was born in the wrong decade. From the psychedelic tunes on rotation to the swinging garbs I wear, everything screams "product of the 70's"."- Lisa Luna, Harper's Bazaar's Editorial Assistant

That's a direct quote from the Bazaar article (the link is way at the top of this post) about denim. Lisa Luna and I are practically the same person, which is why I think her jeans are super awesome. So groovy. Unlike the Man Repeller's jeans, the flare starts way up at the mid-thigh area, so the flarity is HUGE by the end.

I wish I could tell you what she's wearing, but for some reason the article no longer has her in it. I checked last night and went back today, and poof, she's gone.

We now move onto cropped pants, starting with some from my fave place, Urban Outfitters.

Vintage '90s Escada Bright Denim Pants. $139.
A little pricey, no doubt, but they're pink, high rise, cropped, vintage jeans. It may be worth it.

The Man Repeller is again rocking another denim trend for this spring, the cropped pant!
Jacket: Charlotte Ronson, crochet tank: Anarchy Street, highwaist jeans: Seven for All Mankind.

The good thing about cropped pants is that they're the perfect opportunity to show of your super rad flatforms, sandals, heels, or whatever you've put on your feet that day. That's the only flaw that flare jeans have: they shield the world from your shoes. Which sometimes is a good thing.

Salmon-colored cropped jeans are something I can honestly say I don't believe I've ever seen before. They're a somewhat ingenious invention for the those who want to wear color, but don't want to look like one of the Jonas Brothers.

Btdubs, this is who she is and what she's wearing:
Jessie Heyman, Associate Features Editor

Jessie is wearing Current/Elliott “The Stiletto” jeans in Nantucket with “The Shirt” by Joe’s, J. Crew flats and a vintage jacket.

Overalls were my go-to piece as a toddler. I'm beyond ecstatic that I can dress like a 4-year-old again.

Destroyed Denim Overall Short from Forever 21. $27.80.
I have been wanting overall shorts (or as I call them, shortalls,) for the longest time, and here they are, under $30 too! Forever 21 is that place where you go if you're looking for something that you could get for about $100 more somewhere else, but you would rather use that extra money to buy another pair of shortalls, like the ones below.

Rose Denim Overalls from Forever 21. $19.80.
There is absolutely no doubt in the world that I will own these quite soon. They are under $20. I am in floral shortalls heaven. I plan to buy these immediately, unless they look atrocious on me, which would make me extremely sad. Because who doesn't want a pair of floral shortalls, a.k.a. flortalls??!!!! I would like to meet this person and slap them.

Floral shortalls can be worn with just about anything, I think, but that shall be put to the test when I go and try these on. Keep your eyes open (unlike Leandra, who can't manage to do that in these pictures. For some reason, my mind automatically connected closed eyes with that blog post.) for a post about them soon.

And now for denim's wannabe second cousin, chambray.

Sarah Conly, Associate Market Editor at Harper's Bazaar

Sarah is wearing a Lauren Jeans Co. buttondown with a Club Monaco skirt, Michael Kors belt and French Connection wedges.

I am totally down with people wearing chambray tops, but some people just don't know how to do it. Sarah Conly rocks it. By pairing it with a maxi skirt and wedges, she's able to make the look more laidback and casual. She also keeps the color palette light and mostly neutral (except the chambray top, of coursety course), so the attention isn't drawn away from the shirt.

So there you have it: I have covered most of the denim trends of this season, except for shorts. I'm saving that for when it gets warmer and my toes are not little icicle nubs when I walk around indoors barefooted.

I was able to post today, so I may be able to make this work for the rest of the week. Check back daily just in case, and be prepared for a major online celebration when Sherica comes home!

Who Says You Can't Wear White After Labor Day?

If you've been keeping tabs on this season's trends, you will know that white (on white, on white) is huge this season, and lace is also an emerging trend that's been seen on runways such as Alberta Ferretti.

It was actually sort of like a sign from God or something: the day I decide to post about lace, I get an email from Alberta Ferretti entitled "Lovely in Lace." It saved me from having to google who'd used lace in their spring collections. HOWEVER, if my idiotic laptop had not spontaneously broken down last night, I would have been able to look through the hundreds of folders/pictures I have of runway shows/street style/etc. But since Sheila (that's what her friends call her, her name is actually Erica. When I'm sort of mad at her I call her Sherica.) is not working, I can't do that, nor will I be able to post as regularly for the next week while Apple is fixing her. I've been really good recently, so sorry about that in advance.

Anyway, I got all of these photos from Urban Outfitters, go figure.

I like this romper because not only is it a romper (uh der) but because it looks like a dress, and the fact that it's lacy and white plus that fact that it looks like a dress = a cute, little dainty white lace dress. But the joke's on everyone else: IT ACTUALLY HAS LEGHOLES. That's some evil trickery that will boggle your friends' minds. Like the game, Boggle.

As you can see, I like white lace dresses, and this is called a "Lace Two-in-One Dress," and having two things in one is always good, right? Although I'm not exactly sure what two things I'm getting in this dress that I wouldn't normally, but I'm not complaining. Only questioning.

This is a really cute dress, and since it's light and white (rhymes!!), it'll be good to wear on those rare but treasured warm, spring days. So this one may be hiding in your closet for a while. Or at least until Thursday. (Understand this reference by clicking here.)

This is a nice top if you want people to see what's under your clothes. Which isn't always all that bad, but personally, not such a perk. The crocheted design is really neat, and since it's crocheted it's super lightweight and perfect for summer.

These shoes are the coolioest. Even my friend Lola, who usually doesn't care much for clothing/peruse the internet as much as I do, digs these shoes. She said she'd buy them. Birthday present, perhaps? Just kidding, I know you're reading this Lola, and you're sitting right behind me playing Super Hero Squad.

Anywhoozles, these shoes are oxfords, which remind me of British people, which reminds me of Harry Potter, and I love Harry Potter, so therefore I love oxfords. Also they're lacy and white and totally awesome. I would buy these with the money that I don't have.

That's all for today folks, and possibly for the next few days because I don't have access to my computer and the thousands of photographs I have saved on it. I'll have it back by next Thursday at the latest. So long fare thee well, pip pip cheerio, I'll BE BACK SOON!! (I've been listening to the "Oliver!" soundtrack a lot recently.)

We Move to the Next Decade

Yesterday's post was about the 1970's, so if your brain is able to follow this here simple pattern, you may have picked up on the fact that this one will be about the 1980's. A little bit. Meaning that the '80's is the decade that inspired today's outfit. Yes, you guessed it, this is my FIRST OUTFIT POST EVER!!!! The only issue is, I'm sort of living out of a suitcase at the moment, so my clothing is limited to whatever my mind at 11:30 pm decided to pack for myself. And the only available camera is my friend Lola's iPhone (iPhone 4, mind you. It has a ridicky good camera for a phone).

Here it is, my super-80's outfit:
Romper: Ivory (some obscure brand that I couldn't locate on the all-knowing interwebz. Anywhoozles, the romper was my mom's in her somewhat youth, and she has kindly let me have it to relive the 1980's, which I sadly missed.)
Socks: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless

Alright, I may have lied a little bit. The photo quality doesn't look as good on a computer as it does on the phone screen, which probably makes sense, but I'll blame it on ignorance.
Please, try to ignore the atrocious face that I am making, Lola made her eyebrows move all funny and I had no choice but to laugh out loud very obnoxiously.

A few quick side notes about this photograph and my shoes:

1. I put this photo up in honor of the Man Repeller, who is always posting pictures of herself making scary faces just for kicks. So this is just for kicks. Or kix.

2. The shoes that I am wearing are possibly my favoritestestestestest shoes ever, because not only are they Christian Siriano (one of the many loves of my life), they are super comfy and have lasted me nearly a year already and are still in pristine condition. I have another pair of the same ones, then yet another pair in pink. They are the bomshiggitay. That is all.

3. It is rare that I am not wearing my floral scarf that I recently bought in France, but since I am not in my usual habitat, I didn't remember to put it on today. I will most likely be wearing it in most pictures you will see of me. Unless I'm not wearing it, which may happen. I like to keep things unpredictable.

I'M DONE BAI

Dear Santa...

I noticed today while checking other peoples' fashion blogs (the yooj) that people are starting, or really the late-comers are starting, to make spring wishlists. I am very good at wanting things, especially things that I can't have. Which is exactly why I torture myself by shopping online in my spare time (a.k.a. the time that I should be doing to do things like maybe homework or cleaning my room or that thing my mom said that I had to do before the night was over but wait oh my God that dress is incredible why don't I just check it out for a minute....).

My main source of clothing is Urban Outfitters. If I could, I would buy everything in that store. There are so many things that I want for spring, that I could fill my entire History textbook with the photos. So instead of doing that, I just chose a few things from Urban Outfitters that are very '70's, and also aren't completely out of my price range.

I could go on and on about just 1970's clothing 'cause I'm in love with that decade, but just to be clear, I'm pretty sure that I was supposed to be born in 1969, so I could have lived through the 1970's as a kid/teenager, then the '80's and '90's as well. *Sigh...* As you can see I've thought about this for a good long while.

High-waisted jeans are arguably one of the 7 Wonders of the World. Flare jeans are also on that list. These high-waisted flare jeans are yet another Xbox pancake (understand this reference by looking at this post).

The reason I love high-waisted flare jeans is because they're just as versatile as skinny jeans, but in my opinion, more flattering for more people. They're also just the grooviest things ever. And I can't believe I just said groovy.
..........
Moving on.

This is yet again another kick-punch combo of high-waisted-ness and flared-leg-ness, PLUS it's a jumper, which I'm also madly in love with. I'd live in jumpers if it were socially acceptable. There are a lot of things that I wish I could do but can't, but I don't think I've ever mentioned so many of them in one place, namely, this blog.

The simplicity and movement of this jumper is especially awesome, and it's a little under $50.

...And another jumper!! This one's not as simple as the other one, but the fabric just looks so incredibly luscious and comfy and it makes me happy. On a more editorial note, the cinched waist and the bows on the sides of the waistband draw attention to a small waist and create subtle curves even when the silhouette is not tight or clingy. That was quite redundant, so I apologize for saying "waist" three times in one sentence.

Unlike the other two jumpers, this one is in a color other than grey. It's still pretty simple, which makes it easy to pair with bolder pieces, like a statement jacket. But if one were to decide to take off that jacket and turn around, it would look like this:
BAM. This jumper is just like a mullet: business in the front, and a party in the back!!!!

I have been coveting this dress ever since Urban Outfitters released their February catalog. In addition to loving high-waisted things, flare-legged things, and jumpers, I also love nothing more than a good maxi dress. And this is definitely a good maxi dress. I have been planning to make myself one of these for a while now, because I bought similar fabric a while back and haven't used it yet.

The dainty floral design is quite adorable, and the slip underneath is very practical. Overall, I dig this dress.

Floppy sunhats are also another one of my many, many, many, many guilty '70's pleasures. They're youthful yet sophisticated, AND practical all at the same time. This one is nice because it's a simple shape and color, so it can easily be integrated into several looks.

This hat is like the other hat's more sartorially daring older sister. This one's for people who are looking for a hat that takes the center stage in an outfit, or adds to a other bold patterns to create a supercrazyawesome look.

Then, if you want to tone it down a bit and let it be a normal hat for a while, you can do this to it:
Not as cool, but the fact that it's got that snazzy design on the inside probably draws more attention to your face, because people are like, "What a cool design inside that girl's hat! Oh my, what a pretty face she has." I'm sure there's a whole science to this sort of thing, but I just adlib it and it makes just as much sense.

I generally don't like to wear shoes with heels just because I tend to fall an abnormal amount, but these aren't even really heels. They're like walking on the ground, just five inches above it. You're still level to the floor. It's pure genius.
These are similar to the other flatforms, but are a big edgier because of the studs up the sides. Also, the heel is made of wood instead of suede, which is probably why they're about $45 cheaper (plus, they look about five times scarier to walk in).

These are more heel-ish than flatform-ish because they're less, well, flat. They're also quite fun because of the bright red color. They'd go well with spring's popular neutrals to brighten up the look a bit.

That's all for tonight folks. Keep it groovy.
