Can I Have Your Closet: Sadie Heisler

Sadie Heisler is one of those really cool chicks that you see and you're like, "She's probably really cool." And then you talk to her, and she is really cool. (I apologize for the redundancy, I was just trying to make a point. I hope you got which point I was making. It's that Sadie's really cool, in case you missed it the first three times.) I've known Sadie since 4th grade because she was friends with my sister. Of course, she's changed quite a bit since I first met her, but she's still the same hilarious, sweet and adorable girl at heart, just much more well-dressed. That's why you're reading about her, isn't it? Byeah!

Sadie has that chill oh-I-just-threw-this-on-this-is-nothing vibe with her clothes. Maybe it's the beat up white Converse (remember them from this post?), or the cuffed jeans, or the cute childhood t-shirts, or the rolled up short sleeves...You know what, it's probably just a big yummy Sadie salad of all those things. Try to picture that mental image in a friendly and non-graphic way. There's a certain amount of playfulness and nonchalance in her style that's totally incredible, and I try to emulate it, but it doesn't really work as well for me. Actually, ever since I started seeing her every day in math class, she's become a huge source of inspiration for me. She probably had no idea until right now, but it's certainly true. The cuffed pants thing? Taken from Sadie (and Caroline). Rolled up sleeves? Also them. Wearing t-shirts from my young'un years? All Sadie.  If you're reading this, Sadie, thank you and I'll see you in geometry tomorrow.

Despite the fact that she was kind of nervous for our interview, you can find out a lot of the fun details about Sadie by reading the following interview.

Odelia: How would you describe your style?
Sadie: Relaxed, urban-y...I kind of, I don't know, exactly...Yeah, casual.
Odelia: Who are your fashion icons and who do you admire aesthetically?
Sadie: Oh yeah, comfy. I—mmm. I don't know that many people, so...I don't know. Icons, like in general, not like—
Odelia: It can be like a family member, or whoever, I don't know.
Sadie: Okay, well, I love my—my mom's style has changed over time, but all her clothes from before, like from a long time ago that she's kept..I can imagine the way she did wear them, that's sometimes how I wear my clothes. And I wear a lot of her clothes. I don't know, sometimes—this sounds silly but--sometimes I dress the way, like, to—you know how if you're listening to a song or something and you think of like, the way it sounds is how you'd—I don't know, but yeah. I guess that's it.
Odelia: Where are your favorite places to shop?
Sadie: Definitely there's a store that she [Caroline] said that's Second Time Around, that's near my house, that always has really cool stuff. I volunteer at Housing Works, and actually I go there and get a lot of stuff from there now, which is really cool. And places I wish I could shop are Agnès B., which is like, me and Caroline's favorite place ever. Then...where else...where do I go? I don't shop anymore, 'cause I have no money...where I used to shop...I guess that's about it. Wow, I'm giving really un-descriptive answers! [Laughs]
Odelia: If you could own one item right now that you don't have, what would it be?
Sadie: Let's see. Shoes are like, my favorite thing ever, even though I wear these shoes every single day, but I really, really want...damn, this is so hard! I know so many things that I ask for, like think to myself that I want really bad every single day but I can't think of any of them now. I kind of want...damn it! [Laughs] Oh! I want some sandals that are plain leather, tan, light tan leather, strappy...Then I want...I want so many things! There's a lot of bags in the world that I want right now, I can't even think of them. Oh! I saw this thing in a magazine that I really want. It's not an article of clothing, but it goes on your ear, like a cuff, but it's not an actual piercing. I really want one of those.
Odelia: Last question: would you say that fashion is a big focus in your life?
Sadie: I don't know a lot about the fashion in the world, like about all the stuff that's going on, but I'd say that style is important to me.

She's just so cute! Peep the friendship bracelets on her wrists; she's so unknowingly on trend.

I love how basic her clothing is, but with just a few original details here and there, Sadie makes even the simplest ensembles all her own. Snaps for her!

This is a freaking amazing scarf. Caroline was calling out from the sidelines, "Show her your scarf!" and Sadie was like, "Yeah, it's pretty cool, I guess." I think she meant to say amazing and perfect.

The famous rolled up jeans and white Chuck Taylors combo. I now really want shoes like hers. Especially ones with laces long enough to wrap around my ankles. I think that's just the bees knees.

My favorite part about this photo is not Octavia creeping in the bottom left hand corner, but Sadie's smiley face hair clip. That's the lighthearted and humorous part of her style that I love oh so much.

I don't know about you, but I'm feelin' inspired.
