A Hairy Situation

Let me just start off by saying PUN.

I told you a few days ago that I'd be back to discuss the spring beauty trends, so here I am. There's a little bit for everyone--ponytails, beachy waves, wet hair (as in, perpetually wet, not like I-just-got-out-of-the-shower-this-will-dry-in-half-an-hour wet), blowouts and embellished updos. For a lazy little munchkin like me, there are plenty of options. If you feel the same way about hair, as in, "if this takes any more than five minutes I'd rather be bald," we've got something here for you. But if you like spending beaucoup de temps doing fancy things with the dead cells growing out of your scalp, so be it! Have a blast!

Bouncy blowouts:
I once read an article about blowout bars--it's essentially a hair salon dedicated to giving women blowouts whenever they want (be sure to read that very carefully) because it's been said to boost peoples' moods. It's no wonder that this style has become popular once again. Whether the styles be curly, teased or wavy, there is no doubt that blow dried hair is chic and classy.
How do I achieve this snazzy look? It turns out these looks don't require much effort. All you've gotta do is put in a shiz ton of mousse, set your hair in pin curls and then release them and tousle it up. I don't really know what this all means but if you understand then go for it.

Cool girl waves:
We've all heard it before: beachy waves are chic. Come summertime, everyone wants those effortlessly cool waves that make them look like they've spent hours at the beach when in fact they've rolled out of bed five minutes prior. This season, said wavy style has turned into an "urban bend," a loose curve that's supposed to look super natural.
How do I achieve this snazzy look? Roughly blow dry your hair (meaning don't style it with a brush, just get it dry), create subtle curls with your iron and then comb your fingers through your hair to undo said curls. Easy peasy lemon squeezy stuff.

Fancy updos:

Updos are classy. Hairpins? Not so much. That silly notion is about to change. Instead of sticking butterfly clips into your hair, the runways have suggested we try something new: pearls, spiky things (not quite sure what those things at Jason Wu are) or straight up gold cuffs. Or if you don't want to add any objects to your mane, how about making yourself a crown of braids? Hey, it'll give you something to do during history class.

How do I achieve this snazzy look? The braids I cannot help you with. Even with ample hair I could not braid it to save my life. I'm sure you can find nice tutorials on how to make those freaking awesome braids seen at Valentino. As for the embellishments, I'll be doing a Chanel pearl hairpin DIY in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled everyone.

Pretty and pioneering ponytails:
Ponytails are back. No longer just for tennis players, the traditional hairstyle has reinvented itself to be much more high-tech (?) and fancier than ever before. They were seen all over the runways: some high, some low, some multi-tiered, some bun-tail hybrids. It was just a big pony party.
How do I achieve this snazzy look? That's a great question; it depends on which style you're going for. I don't have nearly enough hair for any of these, but I'm sure there are tutorials online somewhere. Look at me, being über helpful.

Dripping manes:
This one is tricky. It can either be really cool-looking, or really gross-looking. When you play it up with strong eyes or a bright lip, it can be very heroin chic. But if you have minimal makeup you can end up looking a bit like a hobo that doesn't shower. Ever.
How do I achieve this snazzy look? Hairstylist Guido (best name ever) did this at a bunch of shows: he saturated the girls' hair with argan oil either all over or just on the roots depending on the look they were going for.
