Bang Bang

Last Wednesday, I was invited by OMEN PR to attend the opening for the tattoo artist Bang Bang's new shop in the Lower East Side. Even though Bang Bang is only 27, he's already tattooed Rihanna, the Biebz, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Russell Brand, Cara Delevingne, and lots of basketball players whose names I don't really know. That's pretty freaking amazing for someone so young. That's a lot of famous skin.

The event was part grand opening, party charity function; lining the wall in the front room were framed and signed kisses from some of Bang Bang's celebrity clientele. There's an auction being held for these framed kisses, with the option for the winners to get the lips inked onto their own body. The money raised is going to a local animal rescue organization, Animal Haven and Empty Cages Collective. Art, tattoos, loud music, nice/well-dressed people, and good deeds: what more can you ask for on a Wednesday night?

I really dig the idea of tattoos, I actually may get one/more than one someday, but I hate needles so I'd probably have to be heavily sedated in order to go through with it. I'd want something really dainty and cute and sophisticated. I have a tall order, whatever.

I was able to bring along Alina, so her and I dressed up in our Wednesday night best and went out on the town. After a while, our bodies began crumbling from the stress of high heels (okay fine, just Alina, I'm not brave enough to wear high heels) so we had to leave and wait for our mommies in a Burger King down the street, but that was a stupid mistake because apparently Rihanna showed up later. Of course.

More lips! (Katy Perry?)

J. Biebs drew a silly little mouth cuz he's silly

Peep me and Alina on the far right!

That's me and her again!!

Bang Bang with Rihanna, likely moments after we left, because I have terrible luck and the stars hate me.

OMEN PR also sent me to a fashion show that I will report on soon, as well as another party that I ended up not being able to go to, but I was honored to be invited anyway.

I apologize for the boringness of my writing this morning, school starts tomorrow and I can already feel the life being sucked out of me.

Miu Miu x2

The other night, Alina and I went to a pre-Fashion Week party for the tattoo artist Bang Bang (more to come on the event later), and funnily enough, her and I both wore outfits inspired by different Miu Miu seasons.

Stylish Babiis

Ah, babiis*. Munchkins, gremlins, jam-hands, cutie pies, angels, whatever you want to call them, young children are certainly fascinating. For the longest time, I was very adamant about not having children until I got over the fear of ruining their lives as well as the fact that they are so incredibly annoying. I've gotten over that (for now), but small children still make me exceedingly uncomfortable, although I suppose that will eliminate itself with age. I hope. Or do I????? Oy.

One of the things that has bugged me about toddlers and other little people around the same age is that they just look like a complete mess all the time. I know, they're not really in tune with their personal style because they're barely even people yet (hey, I didn't become a person until I was thirteen, going on fourteen), but that doesn't take away from the fact that as a general rule they don't dress particularly well. I can't decide how much of that has to do with the parents, although I think that factor depends on the child's age. All I know is that I wore Gap and Children's Place clothing until I was, like, ten, and the only time period in which that worked was between the ages of three and five. After that it was just sad, even though it totally didn't have to be. This one's on me.

With the exception of little divas like Suri Cruise, few children have the means of dressing like a boss even if they wanted to. The other night I got an excited text message from Octavia about how stylish the kids were at a party she was at with her mom, and had I considered writing about this sort of thing on da blogue? It had never really crossed my mind, mostly due to my aversion to those tiny people, but I figured I would give it a shot. Adults and teenagers aren't the only people that exist in the world (THANK GOD), so there's no reason why I should exclude the next generation from my fashion diarizing. After all, little kids have the wonderful advantage of only being allowed to look one way all the time: frighteningly cute. They never have the desire or requirement to look sexy, or sophisticated, or anything else like that. That gives them so many options. Looking adorable is one of the easiest and versatile modes of dress, and little kids are perpetually set to Boo from Monsters, Inc. Below you will find pictures of what you wish you wore when you were approximately five.

*babii is pronounced bab-ee. This is a word of my sister and her friends' creation, for the most part. It's a fantastically amusing alternative to the generic "baby."

[Photos by Octavia, with an iPhone.]

I've been staring at this girl's glasses and friendship necklace for about five minutes, trying to figure out why I hadn't thought of that combination. I bet her headband matches her dress. I totally wish I could pull that sort of thing off.

Okay, come on now! I can't even rock a shift dress like that! Being shapeless and three feet tall really has its benefits. As for the girl on the right, Lucy, the combination facial-hand expression was plenty of cuteness on its own; her dress and boots were really just accessories.

Last but not least, Charlie, a little munchkin that can colorblock and layer expertly, all while staying parallel to the ground.

Don't you wish you could go back in time and do it all over again? Yeah, me neither.

I apologize for the lack of posts recently, it's been a rough time and now I'm in a show at school and then there's Fashion Week. But don't worry, I've got a whole crapload of things lined up, including photoshoots, videos, Mardi Gras, and the First Lady.

Dream Is My Reality

Not only is the title of this post a reference to a fantastically awful French movie entitled "La Boum," it's also a succinct description of two aspects of my night yesterday. Wanna know what I did last night? Guess. Do it. (Hint: I told you about it in this post.)

Da suspense is killin' you, right?! I'll just tell you. Olive and I went to the H&M flagship store on 5th Avenue and 51st Street to celebrate something to do with the NBC show "Fashion Star." It was hosted by Nicole Richie, and it was freaking incredible. I won't tell you too much because next week's Chictopia article will essentially be hardcore story-time. (Speaking of Chictopia, didja check out my new article from Monday night?) I will tell you that I finally wore that vintage Elie Tahari velvet sheath dress I bought at No Relation Vintage with Chris and Ben. I've been fantasizing about wearing it to a classy party with a 1920s hairstyle and my black round toe heels ever since I got it. Olive helped complete my Great Gatsby look by doing a pretty fancy smoky eye on me that I could have never accomplished otherwise. Snaps for her.

The party was basically people shopping at H&M and mingling. Highlights of the night:
1) when I was approximately five inches from Nicole Richie
2) when I had really great conversations with Natalie Suarez, Nadia Sarwar and Claire Geist. (They all looked amazing; I was pretty starstruck. Just conversing with extremely famous bloggers on a Tuesday night, da yooj.)

Photos by me.

Da partay scene! Check out all the minglin' singles! (eHarmony should use this as their website's main photo, no?)

Nicole Richie. Looking like a boss with her top knot and such.

Aww shucks, ain't she just the cutest darn thang you e'er saw?

These balloons hit several people in the head. They were about the size of a capybara.

The only reason I got this photo is because the paparazzi were so annoying and rude. They were all guys (go figure) and kept shouting at Nicole to turn around. It was extremely infuriating. The only other reason I got this photo is because a terribly nice camera man told me where I'd be able to see her best and helped me stand up on a step stool to get better shots. Thanks, man!

Her tattoos are pretty awesome. I still think Romy wins, but you can't beat dandelions.

Sorry about the bad photo quality. It was dark, it was late, Rachel was impatient.

H&M represent!! Feeling pretty hyped, if you can't tell.

Let's get down to business. When the hand goes on the hip, it's sassy time.

C'est Olive and I. I wish you could see her dress; it was pretty jammin'. We both got complements on our dresses/jewelry from Nadia Sarwar, at which point I internally freaked out.

That's about it for today. Except...
