I mentioned a while back, here meaning September (specifically the ADAM fashion show), that I love sheer clothing. Well, I didn't say quite that. I said that I think it's sexier than tight dresses and push-up bras. Diaphanous clothing adds an element of mystery and allure as opposed to a Jersey Shore-esque "LOOK AT ME! I'M HAWT" sort of vibe. The latter makes you seem like you're trying really hard, which is never what you want to come across. Telling someone that their style is effortless is a huge compliment, whereas telling someone they're trying too hard might get you slapped in the face. Maybe. Sheer clothing is also a lot more tasteful (these are the exact words used by Mark Badgley of Badgley Mischka on this week's "Project Runway: All Stars" when discussing Austin Scarlett's gold lamé gown with a sheer overlay)
That's why I'm here to show you the oodles and noodles and strudels of photos from the runway that teach you how to
Whether you want to show some skin or just like the way translucent fabric looks, we've got plenty of options for you. ADAM, Haider Ackermann, Christian Siriano and House of Holland all went the seductive route while designers like DKNY, Doo.Ri, Marc Jacobs and Reed Krakoff were a bit more refined in their use of see-through materials. You'll see for yourself in a moment.

Let me know how you're thinking of wearing the fabric, if at all. Hit me up: youreatulle@gmail.com, @youre_a_tulle or on Facebook (You're A Tulle). Or just in the comments box below.Just by the way, finals week begins on Tuesday, so I may be absent from here during that time. Don't worry, I'll hopefully still be alive. Let's pray.

ReplyDeletexx, beryl
Thanks Beryl! Isn't it beautiful??? But if those panels move even half an inch you've got yourself a nip-slip.
Deletewow! Amazing list of examples! But I would not be able to wear something in sheer fabric. I am somehow too shy for this kind of clothes.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sheer fabric is really tough to wear. How about trying a sheer top over a dress that you like and just taking the tail ends and tying it at the waist? There's this one from American Apparel that's a bit expensive now but when it's on sale I'd say it's worth it: http://store.americanapparel.net/rsa0324.html?c=Black. They have a huge selection of colors so it would be fun to experiment!
DeleteLet me know how that goes! I'm super excited to see if you try it out. You know where to find me!
Odelia
